Philosophy - Continuity and Sustainability

Music Outback Foundation operates under the principal that continuity and sustainability are essential factors in program design and delivery in remote Indigenous Australia.

One of the constant challenges of mainstream education in remote locations is to maintain continuity in the critical long-term relationships between students and teachers. Government Education Departments often have difficulty in this regard, with figures as low as 7 months being reported as the average length duration for a bush teacher in their first posting.

Music Outback addresses this situation through a format that enables our teachers to work with the same schools and communities term after term. With each visit usually one week in length, Music Outback teachers choose the number of schools that they can commit to on a sustainable basis, ensuring that their regular commitment to these schools fits in with their own long term professional life.

With many Music Outback personnel being high profile touring musicians, the workshops become a regular part of their touring schedule, meaning that even if they only visit one community, they will still form long term relationships with those community members as they return each term.
